Tomorrow is April. Finally spring. The garlic has survived the winter, nothing has frozen, the plants are relatively beautiful and healthy. Max has already raked the rows on the Hochberg four times. It's not just the garlic that's growing, but also a lot of weeds. Although... what we consider weeds is an important habitat for other creatures. Last year the field was full of orach, and lots of ladybirds lived on them. There has to be a compromise somewhere... because garlic is our livelihood.
At the beginning of spring we have a lot to do: weeding, hoeing, pulling up thistles and docks. We are a little worried about the drought if it turns out like a year ago when we didn't get a drop of rain for two months, just when the garlic needed it most... that was pretty disheartening. But we really hope that this year will be better.
